The dingo; Australian native dog, hated by some, loved by many.
There exists a constant war between most livestock owners and the dingo. Salo, named after a tugboat in Sydney and raised by an elderly Aborigine in the outback, must fend for himself after a violent storm separates him from his protector. Avoiding persecution from sheep and cattle farmers, traps, poison, guns and hatred of his kind are the odds stacked against him.
This book is written from both the landowners and the dingoes’ perspective without pulling punches in the telling.
We follow the lives of two families of dingoes, one on the coast of Queensland close to the New South Wales border, where life is comparatively easy, and a family in the outback where each day is a hard one, with drought, blistering heat and persecution. Salo is from the outback.
